If
a celebration is to be a success, there must be music. Its
magic unites the hearts of men beyond all linguistic and social
barriers. Laughter and smiles are also an important component
of celebration, in exactly the same way as play. It may not
be a surprise, therefore, that today practically no city or
region in Europe feels able to survive without "festivals".
And the popularity of such festivals shows no sign of decreasing.
As Herbert von Karajan proclaimed in reference to his Salzburg’s
Easter concerts: "I have a project, which interests me
from whole heart, binds me and imprisons me."
"These sounds, these dances invite us to joy! So enchanting so intoxicating cannot be paradise". It is not always easy to choose from such a selection, but we hope that the possibilities we propose will make it easier for you to change location more easily; it does not have to be Salzburg every year when Ravenna, Edinburgh and many other cities have an equally fantastic program! Classic music by Mozart, Brahms, Schubert and Bruckner - all this, and much more awaits you at Europe’s music festivals, and in the Event Guide 2005.

"As a European I welcome the publication of this Top 500 Events guide. It's really much more. It's an encyclopaedia of regional traditions and customs in Europe , and a valuable journey planner for every European citizen. It will be my vademecum on trips throughout Europe in future.
I hope that you too will derive plenty of enjoyment from the guide, and that it will help to bring Europe still a little closer together."
