The
age-old need of humans for celebration overlaps into the neighbouring
sphere of sport. Social groups and towns have "their"
football club, and strategies and tactics are analysed with
computers and videos; political and financial elements of
contemporary sport often dominate and everywhere in the world
sporty celebrations become a demonstration of political size
and power.
One exception to this megalomania is the horse, man’s oldest partner, today consecrated as the leisure sport par excellence, and therefore spared. For this reason we have dedicated a special chapter to equestrian sports. Here you will find not only the elegant “Royal Ascot”, but also the famous “Cheltenham National Hunt Festival” and the “Horse International” in Munich. The “Chio Aachen” as well as the “Swiss BEA/ horse” will bring unforgettable memories to horse lovers all over Europe. St. Moritz is not lacking either, with its “Polo Cup” on ice, nor the “Windsor Polo Tournaments” in England.
Naturally motor sports like “Formula 1” and significant motorcycle events are thoroughly covered, as are the largest city marathons, bicycle races and the two traditional rowing regattas in London.
In anticipation of 2006 we give you the very earliest exclusive information about the Football World Cup in Germany and the Winter Olympics in Italy. To find out where and when you can watch Michael Schumacher race towards his next victory, admire Anna Kournikova playing a match and watch Zidane and Beckham shooting at goal, visit our web site.

"As a European I welcome the publication of this Top 500 Events guide. It's really much more. It's an encyclopaedia of regional traditions and customs in Europe , and a valuable journey planner for every European citizen. It will be my vademecum on trips throughout Europe in future.
I hope that you too will derive plenty of enjoyment from the guide, and that it will help to bring Europe still a little closer together."
